Burda 8283

I was keen to try this pattern because Burda trousers have a reputation for being well drafted. Before cutting out, I measured the tissue carefully and decided I needed to lengthen the rise and the legs, which I did - unnecessarily, as it turned out. In the process I learned how to alter the rise: at the extension lines for the back, but below the zip for the front. Although the pants are not my most polished effort, they fit and are comfortable to wear. The fabric is a dark navy blue wool gabardine.
For my second version, I made fewer alterations: the rise was increased by only 1.5cm, and no extra length was added to the legs. I did move the zip from the front to the left side, which I prefer and often do when making pants. The result is a better fit than the first pair. My fabric is a black-and-white linen-cotton blend from Tessuti.
Now that I have tried this pattern again, I like it more than I did after my first effort. It has been discontinued but might be found from second-hand pattern sellers.
For my third version I used a grey-green/taupe cotton from Darn Cheap Fabrics. Again, I moved the zip to the left side. This time I also lined the pockets with scraps of Liberty of London's Cathryn's, left over from making Kwik Sew 3555.
I have just finished a fourth version made in a grey and blue striped woollen suiting with spandex. This time I inserted the zip in the centre back, a first for me as centre back zips have always seemed inconvenient. I thought it was worth trying, anyway, just once.
