My attempt at making this hip-length, sleeveless top with a cowl neck was not very happy. My fabric is a black spotted silk charmeuse bought as a remnant. Apart from the difficulty of handling a very slippery fabric, it is an easy garment to make. Yet I experienced problems: the neck plunge being too deep; instructions not clear on how to attach the armhole bands; back shoulder seams being longer than front ones; and the front turning out about 3-4cm longer than the back. Persevering, I turned the sleeve bands right under so that they are not visible; gathered the back shoulder seams to match the front, thus creating useful extra ease in the shoulders; and trimmed extra length so that front and back matched. After hemming, the bottom edge has a frilled look. A silk vest has filled the plunging neckline and, although not delighted with the resulting garment, I will wear it.
