These culottes, which I have made in a brown and cream checked linen-cotton blend, are not completely successful. They should have been a comfortable and useful summer garment, but the rise has turned out too short. Last time I made a Burda pants pattern, I added to the rise after taking measurements - too much, as it turned out. This time I assumed - wrongly - that I didn't need to alter the rise, and there was no hint of problems at trying-on stage, when the fit seemed fine. In practice, it is difficult to tell where the waistband is meant to sit until you have assembled it. In fact it sits right at the waist, not below it. Although these pants do not feel as comfortable as they ought, the problem is definitely in the rise, not the seat, and they are wearable, especially with a shirt worn untucked over the top.
The pattern is designed for someone 168cm (5ft 6in) tall, and if your height differs from that figure you should check and alter the rise.
