Smoky Mountain Photos - Buz Kiefer

The hour belongs to the fog and kingfishers that move above the stream softer than a lover’s sigh. And I am among them, their guest, trying to freeze these precious moments, trying to hold them forever in bits of digital code. I am never satisfied with the results. An image can not capture the feel of clean, crisp air on your arms and face or the unique smell of a wild place. It is as futile as trying to photograph freedom but I try, I try.

You bring forth in your photographs everything I love about western NC. It is an area of great beauty, a place that gives peace to the inner self. In the Netherlands they say "ik krijg kippenvel, geweldig!"
There are pictures, they give me chicken skin, some of them are so realistic.
I think, these beautiful pictures of nature, that you show, are not yet finished.
There is so much beauty, that nature does show to us. (Only if we see)
It is not only the music who gives memory a shortcut, also some of these pictures do the same.

There are so many good photos in this gallery that I don't even know where to start... I love your shots that include mist. You always manage to present a lot of emotion on them. And that's very hard in landscape photography. You are indeed an incredible talented photographer. I live in a small town, Mount Airy, N.C. not to far from your Smoky Mountain area and have been there many times. Clingman's dome, Cades Cove and many other areas call me home! Wow, Buz! These photos are beautiful and show off the beauty of the Smokeys indeed! I used to live in the Nantahala area, just outside of Bryson City. I miss that place terribly! I looked at every one of the photos you have posted here and I must say that I am now, more than ever before, homesick for those mountains! I am going to have to make time for a getaway. Buz, your photos of the NC/TN mountain area are breath-taking. I've been a lifelong visitor to the Burnsville, NC area. Currently have a friend who runs Nantahala Outdoor Center in your vicinity. I can feel them, i can smell them and I think many of pbasers do.

A wonderful series of pictures; it looks a lot like the rainforests in parts of Queensland, where I live, but I bet it's a lot colder! Excellent and huge work. Well done.
