Due to the distance and the limited vacation time I have, visiting my hometown, Hong Kong, is not as easy as travelling to Europe for me. During my recent trip, understanding the people in HK had fear of catching swine flu from the visitors from the U.S., I did not notify all my relatives or friends of my 6-day short home leave. This way I ended up having some free time for photography.

This album is a combination of the photos from two trips - 2006 and 2009. The first 12 photos were taken in 2006. That time I was even there for only 5 days. I stayed at a hotel right by the Golden Bauhinia Square, where stands the monument in commemoration of the return of Hong Kong to China in 1997. Two mornings in a row I went downstairs before 7:30 in order to attend and photograph the flag-raising ceremony to add a memorable document to my collection. Regardless of one's political background, at that very moment, watching the rise of the flag and listening to the Chinese National Anthem, every Chinese person should more or less feel an emotion and love for where our roots come from.
