On Oct 10, I flew to Rochester (Upstate New York) to visit 2 Pauls who live there with their family members. Before landing I noticed that the ground was wet. It had been pouring there for the previous 24 hours. I said to myself if later on the sun came out, that could be the best of my luck this year. The timing for shooting the Autumn foliage is less than 3 weeks at one place. After it rains is usually the best bet, as the leaves look cleaner and shinier.

They drove me to Letchworth State Park, renowned as the Grand Canyon of the East (you may say "No comparison") where runs the not-that-wide Genesee River. About half of the leaves had turned yellow, but not that many red leaves were in sight. Both Pauls said that one week later would be the peak. I said it could be the peak, but also could be too late. If suddenly there was a storm, most of the leaves would fall off without turning red. Indeed I was thankful as long as I got some Fall colours and that it did not rain on me.

What a difference a day makes. The next morning, we went to Durand Eastman Park, Canandaigua Lake (one of the Finger Lakes) and a town on the lakeshore called Naples before I took the 5 p.m. flight home. As we travelled further from the city, everywhere we went, we saw the stunning combination of red, orange, rust, yellow and green. It's the season when New York State looks the most beautiful, and I had the opportunity to capture some wonderful scenes. I'd like to share these photos with my friends. You may not like my composition or technique, but I hope you like the colours, brought to us by the magic nature.
