An important part of growing up in the Miami area were the restaurants, drive-ins, bars, lounges, etc. that we dined in and drank in. The images of Hialeah dining and drinking establishments are in the Hialeah Gallery. Please scroll below the photos to see additional comments for some of the photos.

Does anyone remember The Merry-Go-Round Restaurant across US I from UM? One section had a turn-table floor that swept--very slowly--past curved bay windows with a view of the 60's-era traffic through that bit of Coral Gables and those tall, spindly palms that lined Dixie Highway back then. And, what about the long, long soda fountain counter at Breeding's Drug Store also tucked in along that University stretch back then? AND...the geography of Italy we picked up reading the Santacrocci place mats...while listening to Sinatra love songs! THAT's where little kids learned what "gourmet" was...and romance, too, I guess!

I was stationed at a nike base in Carol City in 1968 . Does anybody remember Joey Dees peppermint lounge on I believe 27th ave it was near Dade Jr college, how about a place called 1 South and another lounge called Par Tee Lounge which was located near a lighted par 3 golf course. I had an apartment right across the street from the stable side of Hileah race track. Great memories for a kid from Minnesota. I had just returned from 14 months overseas and thought I'd found heaven. What a great place to live at the time.

Maybe the elegant cafeteria was the Biscayne Cafeteria? Absolutely beautiful - I think it had chandeliers, and the waiters were full of class!

Have you got a picture of the Copper Tone Girl mechanical bill board on the 79th St. Causeway going to the Beach? I used to spend winters as a little girl at my grandparents'vacation home (lucky kid, huh!) and the Copper Tone Girl was my favorite! Also an elegant cafeteria going down Biscayne towards downtown Miami - the waiters were dressed in white tuxedo coats and carried your tray high in the area - loved it!

I have just spent the past two hours going down memory lane. I was born in 1946 and grew up across the street from White Belt Dairy. Went to the Edison Center moives every Saturday. My husband Doug and I graduated from No. Miami Senior High in 1964. We just went to about 15 restaurants that we had been to many times. We moved to Starke, Fl. in 1971. Some places not mentioned and I am sorry that I do not have any pictures to contribute, only memories. The Majorette Drive In resturant on NW 79th st at 5 ave, The entire Little River area, the 8600 Club on NE 2nd ave, located just inches over the county line thereby giving it the right to stay open after the 2am closing time in the city limits, so they would open at midnight and stay open till 8am thereby giving any serious drinkers the option of going 24hours nonstop. Wow, those were good times and glad I grew up in the best of times, the innocent 50's and wild 60's.

I love all th pictures. Does anyone remember "Papa Nick's Italian-American Restaurant in Perrine? My husband and I owned it with our partner. The year was 1970 when we opened it and sold our share out and moved to North Carolina and built one here 20 miles N. of Asheville, N.C. We sold it as my husband got sick and passed away 6 years ago. My brother Tim will never forget the morning he and another kid went to the Royal Castle on 125th St. and 7th Ave. They were waiting for the Miami Herald bundles to be dropped off under I-95 and decided to ride their bikes across the street and get a cup of hot chocolate. They were the only people there and after waiting a few minutes for service, starting tapping their quarters on the counter. Pretty soon a guy came out from the back. They didn't recognize him and when they asked for hot chocolates he didn't seem to know what to do or where things were. When they were done with their order, they put money on the counter. Again, the guy didn't seem to know how to ring up their order etc., and he told them they didn't have to pay this morning. They left, went and threw their paper routes and when they came back they saw police cars at the Royal Castle. It turns out the place was being held up when they walked in and they were served by one of the robbers!!

Guest (Norman Rose), it's funny that you asked that question because I ran across a 1960 ad for New England Oyster House today and in the ad they list Loffler Brothers Oyster House. The image is at: http://www.pbase.com/image/134497132 One location in the ad is on Alhambra and probably the same location as Loffler Brothers. Regarding the Chesapeake (36th Street and NW North River Drive), the Chesapeake was there years before New England Oyster House came to South Florida and I believe the chain bought them out. They combined the Chesapeake name with New England Oyster House and many people, including me, thought the quality of the meals went downhill after New England Oyster House took over. Hello Don,'I remember many of the restaurants. Although we were not just a restaurant, but my family drugstore, Allen's Drugs at Red & Bird Rd had a restaurant and we were famous for our hot Chili. Remember a little ice cream parlor on Flagler St, I think it was called Puritan. It was really small, and had a U-shaped counter. two old ladies ran the place, and made the best hot fudge sundaes ever. I don't remember, but I think it was just west of downtown.

I'd love to see some pictures of the Golden Earrings Lounge on NW79th St. Near the race track. Also, anyone remember the Red Barn by the tracks that divided Hialeah and Miami, on 79th St? It was a strip joint and the kids, boys, would try to look in the always open door. I don't think they had a/c. And the Mug Bar on 79th St. It was a gay bar once owned by Zorita waaaaay back. How about Googies Inn, off limits to servicemen. Or the MauMau Lounge in the Springs by the Airport?

Thank you for such wonderful Memories. I wasn't born until 64' but I did live right down the street from the Bottle Cap Inn. Also, you have a picture of Betty's Restaurant and Betty's Restaurant and Lobo Lounge on 14th Street and Biscayne Blvd. My grandfather was owner (I believe) when it had the Lobo Lounge. I have some Memorabilia including a menu. As for the Royal Castle that is still on 125th Street and NW 7th Ave, I ate there a few weeks ago and the burgers are still awesome!

Hill: thank you for posting that item about Sir Pizza. A buddy of mine (Bob Paget) back in the 70's and early 80's grew up on the Key and he loved Sir Pizza. We had a Sir Pizza in the Cypress Village Shopping Center in Miami Lakes from the 70's through the 90's and I dined there many times and always got a good meal at a reasonable price. Wonderful site!! I used to work at Lum's on Bird Road (1977) then at the Lum's at the Miami Airport Inn on Lejune Road.(1979) There was a Playboy Club next door! Those were the days. I heard about the Lum's up in Davie and was hoping to make it there. Well the other day I ended up at the FLASHBACK DINER in Davie , opened the menu and low and behold there was the ever famous "OLLIE BURGER" ( had no idea that it used to be Lums!!) Guess what I ordered?? It was a great memory for me. p.s. I know this is about restaurants but does anyone out there have a copy of the SOUTH MIAMI JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK (PAPERBACK) from the years 68-70???? Oh how I would love to see it . !!! To the person who asked about Roys BBQ in Coconut Grove - yes, I remember. They had great ribs and sweet potato pie! Funny little window joint across from the Grove theatre on Grand Ave. Yum. Having grown up down in Kendall though, we cut our teeth on Shorty's bbq. Glad to see the pictures. Think I'm going to see if they'll ship to Seattle!!!! Tyler's last restaurant was on Bird Road around 112 Ave. - in the Concord Shopping Plaza. I worked with the Tyler's daughter at Rockway Jr. High in the 70's. Sorrento's brings back a lot of memories. Those pictures are great. It really took me down memory lane. I kept looking for a picture of Watsons Restaurant on NE 2 Ave. in Little River. I remember eating there a lot when my mom would take us to Jacksons for Back-to-School clothes. Also we would go to the Rosetta Theater on Saturday mornings and then get Birch Beer at Royal Castle. I didn't see any pictures of Arthur Maisels/Juniors at the Biscayne Shopping Plaza on 79th St. I always remember that as a very busy place. My sister and I loved the big thing of pickles and kraut on the table. We could fill up on that. The picture of the Red Coach Grill was great because you could see the whole side of the new Jordan Marsh store on the Boulevard. I was glad to see Hollemans. Had some good meals there. I remember Nayton's very well. A very good fast-food Oriental restaurant off 79th St. Going from the Beach to Miami on the 79th St. Causeway 1 or 2 in the morning, you could always stop by for a quick take-out meal. The Egg Rolls were delicious. The food was as good as any sit-down restaurant.

Oh! how much I enjoyed seeing these old pictures. After graduating from Miami High in '57, went with parents and friends to celebrate at Red Diamond. Still have the menu from there Went on to Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Lived at Jackson Hall on tenth avenue and than to Royce Building on 12th Ave. Lots of times as student we would go to Marcellas for dinner,. Remember they had the best garlic rolls.The only time any of us could afford it was when the county paid us a $15. month stipend. That was before Metro Dade..Got engaged at the Robin Hood Inn on Biscayne Blvd. Planned our elopement at Pizza Hut. First house we ever bought was off Bird Road and down the street from Old Hickory. Recently celebrated our 50th Anniversary. Life is good!!

Are there any pictures of the old Yorkshire Inn? That was always one of my favorites.

Dan, I was born on Miami Beach and still live in Miami. When you think of Lums the original I believe was on 41st Street.They later featured the Ollie Burger which was the recipe from Ollies near Beach High. Ollies was there for years and Ollie was a true character. Great fries too. In the area of 21 Street and Collins you had another Wolfies, Chandlers next door and the famous Ember's known forf their salad dressing. I have to say when Villa Deli closed on Alton Road and The Rascal House it was the end of an era for deli in South Florida. Thanks for the memories.

Great memories - I lived in Miami from 1948 to 2000 - graduated from Miami High ('60) Miami Dade Junior College (it was called then) first graduating class in '62 and UofM - so I remember all of the places you mentioned - didn't see a few that I remember - The Luau on 79th St. Causeway or Tony's Fish Market (also on the 79th St. Causeway), The South Pacific in Broward, Jahn's Ice Cream Shoppe in Coral Gables (on the Mile) I'm sorry if these are there - my eyesight is not as good as it used to be!!!

Great trip through memory lane I started working at Lums in the Grove in 1977. That was the funkiest.although I remember the Last Lums ever was in Miami Beach. we are missing here Mexico Lindo in Coral Gables(early 70s to late 80's)bob was the owner.!(also worked there..) the Jamaican inn brought back many memorys~Thanks There was Biscayne Babys in the Grove upstairs..The first real nightclub till 5am.Early 1980's with all the celebs(from Miami Vice)even Ted Kennedy and and sons! Nice job and thanks for the memorys!!

However, you need to look at the photos again because there is a photo of the Hasta on the 4th row from the bottom and there is a photo of the Red Coach Grill on Biscayne in the 1960's period along with a Red Coach Grill on Sunny Isles. A few more old high end joints missing here: The Hasta Manana where Nixon and Bebe Rebzo liked to go, The Lagoon on 79th St causway-first place I saw live lobsters in a tank and next to the Jordan Marsh store on Biscayen Blvd was a place called Coach and Six or something like that.

I do remember the Circus themed berger place in Coral Gables...... on a street that ran perpendicular to Miracle Mile. Years later when I saw Cirus Circus casino I thought of that place in the Gables!

Two more great old Miami restaurants I wonder if anyone remembers: Don Julios off 2nd Ave in what was a bad part of town now re-gentrified as I understand it. Had the names of local clebs painted on the backs of chairs. Tulio and Andres a very out of the way Italian place in an old house also in the same neighborhood. Frequented by the famous ..........and infamous.

Yes, it is still there and is run by Frankie's daughter, Roxanne. While living in Arcadia, Florida, we went by Frankie's on a trip to and from the Keys in July of 2004 and had a nice chat with her and, of course, DELICIOUS PIZZA THAT TASTED JUST AS WE REMEMBERED. We are now in northern California and I was so hungry for it a couple of years ago that my husband called Roxanne and had a pizza sent to me overnight for my birthday. Someone stole the sign of the last Lum's in Davie a couple of weeks ago, according to what I read in Miami Herald neighbours online. Strange. Are they actually going to try and sell it? Put it on display somewhere? Very difficult to see them getting with it if they do this. They are probably trying to save it and will keep it hidden away somewhere.

To Don Boyd: You're correct about Brevard County having many ex-Miamians. My wife and I moved to Merritt Island in 1966 after I left Miami in 1962 for the Air Force. I've located 10 members of my Edison graduating class locally, plus many others from other classes and schools. Some of the Miami restaurants I miss the most are Royal Castle, Howard Johnson's, The Shrimp Place, Jumbo's and all the kosher deli restaurants on the mainland and the Beach. To Linda Altman: I believe the shrimp restaurant you are thinking about was "The Shrimp Place". When I had to work at my dad's furniture factory on Saturdays in the early 50s, he would always take me there for lunch. It was a favorite of the working class and packed for lunch. Segregation was very evident in those days and blacks were forced to order from a window and eat on benches outside the restaurant.

The drive-in reminded me of the one at Bird and US 1 (there's a post office now). Does anyone remember the name? Also there was a Royal Castle we used to go to on Biscayne Blvd near Cushman School. It was the only place that served food after one of the 1960's hurricanes (Cleo or Donna?) because it had gas.

Wow... this site is cool... do you remember Toby's Cafeteria? There was one on SW 27 Ave and 8 St. My parents use to take me there back in the early 60's. Of course, I was just a kid, but I remember it well... there was also a Publix, I think next door to Toby's... it later moved to south of Coral Way and 27 Ave.

Just had to say I agree with the other poster about Marcella's having the best garlic rolls...awesome place!! I was only a very young kid for these "Miami memories", but oh, how they have endured through the years! Oh, how I wish I could go back and do it all over.... enjoying those Black Angus dinners after church on Sundays with the whole family!! Not to mention eating at the Lums on 441 where my brother was a cook (also later at Captain's Landing), the Royal Castle which then became Char-Hut (glad that one is still around!), and for birthday parties and special events, who could ever forget Farrell's at Westland Mall with their "birthday wishing marching band" and the player piano!! Sorry, gotta stop now...can't see for the tears welling up...

love this site-found it while doing research for a nostalgia visit to my hometown of miami springs -i was looking to see if pumpernick's in south miami was still open-boo hoo-but i will always have my fond memories of gracies italian with its great garlic knots and the donut holes my dad would bring home when he got off duty from the coral gables fire deparment from gracies delicatessen in miami springs-and lord how did i suvive riding my bike all over, all the way up to 49th street in hialeah. can't wait to drive by springview and MS jr high and down westward drive again-maybe i'll even bring my bike for old time sakes, does anybody remember a dairy bar out by the airport??? we used to go there for ice cream cones on friday night. '

Yes, I think you might be right. I also thought it might be the Trocedero because I am not convinced it was Italian, I only remember that it had unusual and awesome garlic rolls. I remember once we were there and the rolls were not ready and the customers were going crazy until they came out. I also wondered if anyone remembers the famous candy store near The Pantry that used to sell hand dipped chocolate fruits. In the 70's that was a new concept. Thanks for your responses.

Richard, I remember Nayton's very well. It was a Nathan's hot dog joint, that eventually moved to Sunny Isles in the early to mid 70s. Nathan's was a direct competitor to Fun Fare farther west on 79th Street Causeway. In the 60s we had Fun Fare, Nathan's, and Corky's in North Miami Beach to hang out without the need to be 21 for liquor.

Bob, thanks for responding. I wish I could remember. I might be trying to find a needle in a haystack. My relatives lived in a complex called The Carriage House in Miami and then later moved to Key Biscayne. I somehow remember it being close to the Miami address. Now that I am trying to research it, it seems as though many restaurants claim they have the best garlic rolls. At the time I thought this was their big claim to fame (little did I know). My sister seems to remember the name started with a "T" and I seemed to remember it being a persons name. Anyway, thanks for trying, I was just remembering some great times and was hoping to put the pieces together. Thanks. This is a fun and interesting website.

Carol K. it sounds like you grew up in that neighborhood. We lived on NW 96th Street and NW 30th Ave. My cousins lived on NW 88th Street and NW 30th Ave. We all traveled the area from Northside Shopping Center to NW 103rd Street, between NW 32nd Ave and NW 27th Ave on our bikes. We ate at the Royal Castle on NW 95th Street, I got my first bike from the bike shop next door. Across from the Royal Castle on 95th Street was a Georgia Pan Fried Chicken. And there was a Kwik Chek behind the Chevron station on the other side if 27th Ave, and Stephens Van Terminal and Tag Agency on the other corner. Heading south on 27th Ave there was another hamburger place like Royal Castle, but I don't recall the name. I remember when they built Luby Chevrolet on the west side of 27th Ave as well. Heading south from there was Plantation Pit, Dairy Queen, and the 27th Ave Drive In. All great memories of my old neighborhood.

does anybody remember the restaurant that had a number of rooms, all decorated in completely different styles, i seem to remember a horse room, suits of armor, and others. i was very young, and completely overwhelmed. there were funhouse style mirrors on the way out, that made me and my family almost pass out with laughter after a big meal. the atmosphere of the place has never left me, it made a tremendous impression on me, and i have tried and tried to find out what the place was called, and if there are pictures. i was there around '59, or '60-'61 years. thanks

Hi Donna: I'm beginning to think that 20% of Miami moved to Brevard County and in another year or two I'll be up there hopefully. It reminds me of Miami long ago. Thank you for your comments/memories. I loved both the Chesapeake before it became part of the New England Oyster House chain and Mike Gordon's. We had many a fine meal there and I saw Bob Griese in there a few times in the 70's along with other VIPs. Come back in a day or two and I'll have an interior photo of Mike Gordon's up on this page. Born and raised in Miami, now living in Melbourne in Brevard Co. What a fabulous site. Used to see Mayor of Miami and his wife eating in the Chesapeake Sea Food House. Used to go to Fun Fair for lunch aftter spending a day on the beach. Also, used to love Mike Gordon's Seafood Restaurant on the 79th Causeway. Always ordered their blackened grouper. God I miss the old Royal Castles....used to practically live in them at the one in Coral gables and another on US 1 and 27th ave. You could fill a bag for 15 cents per burger and same for fries and get a birch beer to go..they were nickle at one time...and who can forget the bowls of chili and those great to order fried eggs bacon grits and toast. A 24 hr a day delight. left Miami in 67 to move to lauderdale and left there in 69 to move to S.Carolina where I still am. Miss s. florida greatly..at least the old s. florida I remember

Great site. I loved the picture of Paley's Big Wheel. That was the hangout for the 1963 Miami High crowd. I worked at Black Caesar's Forge for a while. Would love to see a picture of the place. I'm trying to remember the owner's name, seems like it was John Shoop??? How about the Hot Shoppes where the Gables kids with the ticked out rides hung out? Does anyone remember the Par-Tee (?) Lounge on South Dixie HWY? How about the Ale House on South Dixie by the U of M? Man those were the days.

Judy, there are a ton of restaurants from years ago that are "missing" as you say, but this gallery and site are works in progress and certainly not finished. Someday in the future someone might submit a photo of the Candlelight Inn and I'll be glad to post it here. I can only put up what I have. But I appreciate your kind words and memories of the Candlelight Inn and maybe your taking the time to post them will rekindle memories of that restaurant for many others who read these comments. Hi, Missing is the restaurant in Coconut Grove called the Candlelight Inn. During the 60s Tennessee Williams used to be a frequent diner. Next to the Candlelight Inn, on the corner of Main Highway used to be a gourmet grocery store--I forgot the name?? Coconut Grove used to be a real "artist's colony" in those days. Quiet, small and full of quaint shops. Quite different than the Grove of today. Judy

Great memories Don! What a mental walk down memory lane. I grew up in Coral Gables and South Miami in the 1960's and can remember all these places. One of your quests mentioned Leonard's La Penas' which was located on Bird Road just east of the Palmetto Expressway. I think it was a Mob hang out. I can remember my Dad and Mom taking me there for dinner and my Dad putting me up on the piano. Great times, it seems like the world was more innocent and forgiving back then but I suppose everybody has that feeling when they reflect on their past.

(miami high class of 58. preseently in southern califronia. there were some wonderful names on your list with very special pictures!!! kudos to you for your incentive and creativity!!! a couple of very special restraunts during the late 50's ...when my husband (a med. student at jackson at the time) we and all of our intern friends would run out to GRACIES ITALIAN REST. at N.W.54th st. and fifth ave. then in later years moved to nNW 135th and 7ht ave. another of our favorite haunts was a special shrimp place near jackson owned by Richard Lee. it was located at N.W. 21st st. and 7th ave. anyone remember it? thanks again for all you have done to make smiles!!!..Linda

Hi Dan. Enjoyed the stroll down memory lane. However the Sorrento Italian Restaurant is missing. It was on SW 8th Street and about 32 Ave. It was my father's business. If you like, I can send you a copy of its postcard and an interior photo with the owners, Lucy and Joe. Their resturant was very popular with the Miami Opera Guild and was run for some 20 years at least under their ownership before it was sold and demolished to make way for a bank. Let me know. Rosalie, thank you for posting some great memories. Some of the Hialeah restaurants you mentioned are also mentioned by others in the Hialeah gallery. I want to keep Hialeah separate since I grew up there and it's a different world, haha. The Quinty's Italian restaurant at Hook Square that you mentioned was owned by the dad of two of my buddies (Quentin "Pete" and Eddie Ciolfi) in the late 50's and their mom Agnes is still alive and kicking up in the Titusville area. FABULOUS - Loved it. Sad that the TWO BEST SPOTS for the North end crowd weren't mentioned - LARRY'S on NW 79th Street, and best of all, the MAJORETTE DRIVE-IN on NW 79th Street, which brings back a lot of memories for a lot of people.

thanks for the memories. a high school era friend turned me on to the site, what a cool idea...it sure triggered some stuff! i saw someone else's comment that mentioned black ceasar's forge, down near where i grew up on matheson's hammock lake #2.that would be nice to see. i once did a radio show from there back in rhe folk song days of college. anyhoo, thanks again, really fun. dr. jeffrey comanor

Add in Leonard's La Pena, Black Cesear's Forge, Pickin' Chicken, Nick & Arthur's, Place for Steak, Bonfire, Gallaghers, Raymond's Steak House, Curry's, The Pub, Miami Springs Villas King Arthur's Court, Les Violins, Sonny's Pizza, Embers, Fan and Bill's, Sea Shanty, The Famous, Juniors, Prince Hamlet, Coney Island, Lums' Hole In The Wall, the original location on 41St. The Old Forge, & Saxony's Nosherie. Hi Don, You've done it again. Excellent memories for restaurants. Here are some for which I enjoyed in the late '40's early 1950's; have no photos. 1. Batistas (Italian), NW corner of PoncedeLeon and Douglas Rd. Today the building is a lawyer's office. The best, long before Red Diamond or Duke Mansene's, both nearby. 2. The Shack (barbecue). Shared the parking lot with Dixie Belle Inn on S.Dixie in Kendall. Notable because this is where Shorty was the cook; prior to Shorty opening his own place in 1951. 3. Old Scandia in OpaLocka. What a treat this place was!! 4. The Barcelona on PoncedeLeon a few blocks south of the Trail. Building is still there. Across from the Antilla Hotel. 5. The original Dairy Queen, still in operation at South Dixie & 69th Ave in South Miami. I think it must have the steepest roof ever built. 6. Granada Seafood started at the entrance to Coral Gables at Granada Blvd. on the Trail (SW 8th St). All you could eat steamed shrimp was 59¢. 7. We used to find Mr. Lum at his original Lums on 41 St on Miami Beach. Long before the franchise operation, he had three Lums in operation on the beach (mid 1950's). One of the others was on Collins at the south end of the beach. The third may have been on or near Lincoln Rd, but I have forgot. 8. Snowdens on Old Cutler. 9. Santacroce Italian across from U of M on S. Dixie Hwy. Steve McDonald

Funland Park was the name of the place. I went there the day I graduated from Miami Senior High...a bunch of us. Got sick on the ride that had two bullet-like capsules. Also, remember the Drive In on 27th? Also, there was Shriley's across the street from Miami High. The Big Wheel was really, really big as long as I can remember...my parents took my sister and me there as kids on Friday nights...GREAT hot dogs, milk shakes. What about a Puritan Ice Cream store over near Miami High? Cannot remember the exact address, but there were lots of Puritan places around to get hot fudge sundaes. Great Chinese Restaurant - China City - on SW 8th Street and 19th Avenue. So many memories...so much GOOD food! I miss My Miami. Marilyn in St. Augustine

Bill Griffith As a teenager in 1946 and 1947 we stayed at a small hotel just South of the Five O'clock Club and I would go there often with my mother to see the show. We also went to Wolfies at 23rd and Collins (I believe) where they served the best dill pickles that I can remember tasting. We later moved to Rivo Alto Island on the Venetian Causeway.

Dave Conger I grew up in this area. Never found anything close. Mom and dad graduated in 61 from Hialeah High. We rode bikes everywhere worry free. My relatives started Conger Life Insurance and my dad owned Conger Plastering Co. We also, at one time, owned the first house that you came to on the corner as you entered Palm Springs North across the street from the big piece of coral. We later built a house on the lake. Lorne Greene had something to do with developing PSN which is why the floor plans were called "The Ponderosa" and so on. Does anyone have a picture of the Plantation restaurant or remember the hobby shop where they raced the big slot cars? Golden Glades Drive Inn? Dad used to build and race dune buggies near PSN/Indian Mound and the Everglades. Bile's ranch was out there where we kept our horses. It's all concrete now. My aunt lived on LeJuene Rd behind the Lum's,. We could watch airplanes take off from Miami Intl Airport from her backyard. I could go on and on.

I went to Miami Norland Senior with a young lady by the name of Robin Pearlman. Her dad, Cliff Pearlman was the founder of Lum's restaurants. Cliff went on to build a notable little hotel in Las Vegas named Caesar's Palace. I believe she married Howey Schwartz right after high school. Talk about bad timing on my part.

Yes, The Granada Seafood Restaurant was on SW 8th St near Granada Blvd. . I had a friend that was a waitress there and went many times. Good food.

Don, On the corner of 77th Ter and 27th Ave was a TEXICO gas station that was owned by a great man James (Robinson?). He had a new '66 GTO. 2746 NW 75th St. was just an open field to the railroad tracks. On the northside of the tracks was a swamp area and a car junk yard on the otherside (south) of the tracks. Miami was a Great place to grow up in, in the 50's & 60's. I was 18 in '69 when I left. How DUMB was that?. Thank you again for a TERRIFIC SITE.

I so enjoy viewing this website. Having lived in Miami when it was called the Magic City, love the memories this brings back. Does anyone remember Brussard's Restaurant on Miami Beach? My father worked as a waiter there when it was frequented by movie stars. Would love to see a picture of it.

Mike, there was an amusement park on the south side of 79th Street and west of 27th Avenue called Funland and I'm seeking photos of it. It is mentioned in comments in other galleries. It was behind the Frank 'n Bun which is on the corner of 79th and 27th Avenue (now a Royal Castle and strip shopping center). Hialeah stopped racing in the early 2000's and the track is dormant. Go to the Hialeah Park gallery for more information on the track. Don

Thank You for all the memories. I was raised in Hialeah(1950-1987) and there were a lot of restaurants that were pictured here. There used to be a fair ground on 27th ave/79st around 1957 behind Lums. Does any one remember? Is Hialeah park still racing? Haven't been back since I know things have changed since 87..

Wasn't the Granada Restaurant on S.W. 8th Street across the street from the Granada Entrance to Coral Gables? I ate many "All You Can Eat" Shrimp dinners there but I left Miami in 1970 so it might have moved by '72.
