We moved to a new home on the west side of the Palm Springs section in June 1957 and I thought it was a really great place to grow up. Everything was brand new and it was definitely different than the northeast section of Miami where we lived before. I loved all the undeveloped open spaces and wilderness to the west and north of us. I think that the majority of kids who grew up in Hialeah would say it was a great place to grow up in the 1950's, 60's and maybe the 70's. I can't think of any city in America that experienced such a massive relocation of existing residents to Broward County and points further north in America and replacement by predominantly Spanish-speaking immigrants from other countries.
