I remember riding on the little boats at the 163rd St. shopping center amusement area as a kid, so I think Don is right on.

Sharon, if you look two comments down you'll see comments about 163rd Street Shopping Center with the outdoor amusement park and there are comments elsewhere on the site where people have posted about the amusement park. I don't know of any other shopping centers in Dade County that had an amusement park in them. Don

Does anyone remember a shopping center/mall with an outdorr amusement park that had rides for kid? Growing up, I lived with my grandparents in Hollywood, Fa. They would take me there during the 70's. I think this shopping mall was in the Miami/Dade area.

By any chance, does anyone remember the name of the restaurant that was out over "open water" in the Falls mall before Hurricane Andrew. I believe they served mainly seafood and would have live music from time to time.

I enjoyed looking at the picture on here of the 163rd St Shopping Center, as I worked in both the Jordan Marsh Department store and the 163rd St Movie Theater. I remember as a child my parents would bring me to the amusement park area at the center of the shopping center. Life was considerably simpler back than.

does anyone remember a store that was on the west side of 441 heading north just before Zayre, which was on the east side? it was a store kind of like Zayre & maybe even looked like a Zayre. my younger brother & i have gone through all the store names (Grants, Golden Triangle, Richards, JM Fields, Kresge, McCrory's, etc.) - i can't picture it, but my brother swears there was another store we should all remember!

Seeing these pictures brings me right back to the early '70s when I lived in N. Miami Beach. I used to work at JC Penney at the 163rd St. shopping center in 1970-71. Some of these pictures bring me right back to that time! Thank you. I would love to go back again...

oes anyone remember a small appliance store, much like Lurias, in the Biscayne Shopping Center around 1967? It was a one word name. There was also a same store in the Carol City Shopping Center off 27 Avenue and Miami Gardens Drive.

Hi, someone asked about a big dept. store downtown was it jordan marsh my mother loved that store. the pic. of the 79th st woolco is not the one on 79th. I grew up a couple of blocks away. when they built that my friends and were heartbroken that was our snake catching field haha.

We moved to South Miami in 1957 and I remember being in all of these places. There is one that I can not find though. In the early 60's we had a friend who was a chef in one of the large department stores, and I am thinking it was Burdines in downtown Miami. But I can not seem to find a picture of the glass walkway from the parking garage over to the main store. Does anyone remember the store it might have been?

it was great to see the picture of the old treasury store-where my husband and i bought our wedding bands-and oh, i think it was across the highway from an S&H green stamp store- ooooh, good times!!!

we moved from NMB to S Miami in 62 and I am surprised to learn that was before Dadeland openned... remember Safety Council, kids on bikes and trikes in the parking lot before Jordan Marsh where they would teach traffic safety? I remember the freeform rocks in Dadeland, long before A/C. Long before Penneys and the East mall. King of the Mall (BK) and a great deli just a few doors up from it. Burdines had a record department then, Beatles Abbey Road was the 1st cassette I ever bought, 1970.

my husband and i are both 37yrs old and we just had the biggest debate about the USA FLEA MARKET and the name of the store it was before they changed it to the flea market. of course i won the argument because he said it was woolworth and i told him it was WOOLCO, and now we have the pictures to show, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS SITE!!!

This is a really cool gallery. I love "old Florida" and all those old stores we used to shop in as a kid. Those were certainly the days. Grew up in the 70s and there's just not much of it left. Thanks for peek back in time. V

I was the secretary to the Dadeland Mall manager in the early 70's and I remember quite a few things , one is that when they built the sea horse it was a male and most important it came with all the male parts and with a sea horse that big you can only imagine............well after a few months the poor thing had to have a major operation and that part removed................they did a nice patch job and alot of people never new what that patch was all about........
