Final correction - Biscayne Mkt. was on N.W. 7th Ave & 143rd. The thru road under I-95, I checked a map. It was a popular grocery store in Biscayne Gardens.

Does anybody from North Dade remember the frame country store on N.E. 154 St. before 2nd Ave. Originally built in the 1930's, It was an anomaly because it was in a residential area. Last called The Ponderosa, before that- Clarks Market, before that Todds in the 50's. Also Biscayne Market was on N.E. 7th Ave & 146 St.

During the years 1953-54 I worked for Grables Bakery. Does anyone remember Grables Bakery located in Edison Center? When Fredrick's opened their new market, Grables opened a bakery in the Market and I worked there.

Guest...the factory with the wheel you remember on the Hialeah side of the Airport expressway was the Dixie Lilly plant. They supplied flour, grain products like corn meal, and dried beans. The wheel was a water wheel that turned the mill to grind the grain into flour. They delievered to grocery stores locally. The driver that delievered to my dad's store, Quality Market, was a black fellow named Jimmy, who sang with a gospel group as well. A very nice man with a beautiful voice.

Growing up in Palm Springs North, we initially had a Food Fair that later became Bogaart's, and ultimately a Sedano's that closed. I remember my mom liked the Publix in Miami Lakes and would drive what now seems like an extremely long distance to shop there. She would dump me over at the "barn" so I wouldn't be a nuisance while she shopped. The "barn" was an old, abandoned dairy facility that the Graham's owned if I am not mistaken. For a kid with a wild imagination it made for a good time.

I know exactly what you're talking about. For some reason the name "Dixie Mills" pops up but I don't think that's right. I don't know if it was bakery-related but it had something to do with the processing of food. I'll research it further. Don

As a young child I lived in Carol City and on Sundays my family would load into the car and travel to my grandparents house which was at NW 27th Ave and 33rd street. They lived down the street from where the Aviation Building once stood. The route my father would take is Red Road to Okeechobee Rd and then the Airport Expressway to 27th Ave. As we got onto the Airport Expressway going east, there was some kind of factory on the Hialeah side of the road. I think the building was three floors high. Mounted high up on the side of the top floor was some kind of wheel. At age four I thought it was a Ferris wheel that had long been abandoned. It was like a spooky old ruin. I remember having a nightmare about it. Does anyone remember it? What was it?

The Table Supply stores were an outgrowth of the Davis family's grocery business which started out in wagons then trucks that prowled the neighborhoods selling packaged groceries. They opened stores in the 1940s as Table Supply, but by the early 1950s had changed the name to Margaret Ann. Then about 1954 again changed the name to Kwik Check and eventually in the late 50s early 60s they became Winn Dixie which still exists today. My father drove a meat delivery truck for Cudahey and Armour and later was a meat cutter for the Kwik Check at Sable Palms on NE 2nd Ave and 54th St. He knew the Davis family well and was familiar with the history of this Miami family.

Thank you for your comments everyone. It would help dramatically if you would put the YEAR or approximate year you were talking about certain stores or events. We don't know when you were 18 or whatever age you were.

The Grand Union on Tamiami Trail and 61st Ised to be a B Thrifty. I shopped there with my Grandparents when I was a kid, later I was assistant manger when I was 18, before I went to UF

Oops! Almost forgot. I think the store at 8th. St. and 52nd Ave. was also a Kwik Check at some point in that 10 year time frame.

There was a Table Supply Store at SW 8th St. and 52nd. Ave. in the early 50's. It later changed ownership and was a Margaret Ann store until I left Fl. in 1960. I think there was a Food Fair Store several blocks West of that store.

I used to be a cashier at the Grand Union ("Onion") on So. DIxie and Killian Dr. (112th). I sold beer ileegally to my older brother!!!!! My family and I grew up going to Howard Drive Elementary and Palmetto Jr & Sr. High. At that same strip mall "Suniland" there was an old restaurant called the Flame that was popular back then. These are great pics and take me back a long time to a great time in my life. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I remember 'Charley & Charlies' Grocery store on the Trail at about 30th Ave. Also, the Black Cat at (I think) Red and the Trail. And then there was a Margaret Ann (sp.) in South Miami. Anyone else remember these?

Does anyone remember Sanz Market on 8th Street and Ponce? It was a small store with a sign on the east side that said "Sanz, Fruit and Pecans".

We shopped at three groceries near the Orange Bowl, Tanners, A&P on SW 1 st and 12th Ave. Mr Lewin had a small butcher shop and grocery on 4th st and 12th Ave. Mr Karanicas had an open air grocery on fifth street and we always had to go to Little Brown Bettys store on 10th ave and 3 st.

There was one terrific grocery store, locally owned, on NW 7 ave. called Biscayne Market. It would be almost impossible to find a photo of it but that is a part of history of N Miami.

My father, George Roskovich, worked at Arnold's Grocery store in Miami Springs in 1955 to late 1960's for Rock Arnold and I am looking for a picture of the store and any information on the store.
