These photos are of Angkor Wat, Cambodia and some of the other temples in the area. We spread our visit over 11 days to avoid "temple fatigue". Our other strategy was to wake up early to avoid the heat, bad light, and hordes of tourists. Believe me, there are few places in the world that would see us getting up at 4:30, but this was well worth it.
Only the first two photos are of Angkor Wat itself. This is one of the individualized "apsaras" found in many of the temples.

While Angkor Wat has been in virtually continuous use, other temples were abandoned. Some have been restored to a certain extent, but the task is huge.
Depending on the era, the temples were Buddhist, Hindu or both
Some of the temples are more complete than others
Ben Melea, a bit further away from Angkor Wat, has largely been left to crumble
Some temples have been used as locations for films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark
Some are still surrounded by moats
Our early wakeups allowed us to have many places virtually to ourselves...
