We stayed in Sydney, Australia for 10 days. We found the city of 4.5 million to be beautiful and vibrant. It is truly world class.

Sydney has preserved its many Victorian buildings and built an outstanding people-friendly downtown.

The harbour is justifiably considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Its' "zoo with a view" allows this giraffe to admire the Sydney Opera House across the water. That great building is the subject of the next blog entry.

Numerous ferries cross the harbour. This photo shows another Sydney icon, the Harbour Bridge.

The central business district is large, but traffic-free areas make it possible to get away from the hectic pace.

One of the most impressive aspects of Sydney is its neighbourhoods. They have well-preserved older houses, many cafes and lively local shopping areas.

Along with its famous beach scene (subject of a separate blog entry), it has many wilder areas. This lizard and many others greeted us along the walking paths.

We went on a daytrip to the Blue Mountains, located to the west of the city. Here a kangaroo passes a pedestrian in a national park.
