Raft the Rio is an annual event in New Mexico along the Rio Grande from the towns of Las Cruces to Mesilla, a distance of about 3 miles. Hundreds of local people participated this year, sailing their home-made rafts. The official theme was recycling, and some rafts were indeed made of recycled materials, but many people also dressed in costumes with a variety of river/sailing themes. As always, it was a warm, very bright, and whimsical day.
