On the north shore of the island of Oahu in Hawaii lies the small town of Haleiwa.
Home to some of the best surfing in the world, it has played host to many world championships over the years.
In the winter months, when the waves become some of the largest on the planet, the town is
bursting with energy and activity as surfers travel from all over the world to test their skills
and nerves on the Banzai pipeline.
In the last days of our holidays, as summer winds to an end, the town took on a quiet melancholy.
Most of the surfers have gone home and only a few scattered tourists remain to
browse its many little shops and byways...
