A species more common in the Western United States, this Varied Thrush was first sighted in Caledonia State Park, Franklin County, PA on December 8, 2004. Normally seen in the damp, shaded coniferous forests of the Pacific Northwest, it appeared to survive at least most of the winter here in the east. I returned to Calendonia SP on March 21, 2005 to see how it fared the weather and took the bottom three photos. Weight loss is quite evident along with other physical changes. The bird was last seen on April 2, 2005. This was the second sighting record for Franklin County, PA
