The general Vernal, Utah area has played host to many peoples over the millenia. Archaic peoples as well as the Fremont and Ute have called this area home. Most of the rock art in this area belongs to the spectacular Fremont Classic Vernal Style. Petroglyphs in this style are primarily of anthropomorphs which occur in lines along the sandstone cliffs. These anthropomorphs show precise ornamental detail. Facial features, jewelry, and headgear as well as apparel details can be seen on the figures. They are often seen holding shields or human heads. Some of the images belong to a rock art grouping known as the Interior Line Style which shares similar look with that of Glen Canyon Linear and Barrier Canyon Style rock art.
All images taken with a Digital Rebel XT with various L lenses.
