Parowan Gap is located near Cedar City, Utah. The gap is a 600 foot deep notch in the Red Hills which was carved by a river in the far past that no longer exists. Many cultures are represented in the rock art here. They include Archaic (Great Basin Abstract Style), Fremont (Sevier Style A), and historic Southern Paiute. There are a lot of geometric forms and patterns here and some of those patterns are striking. The patterns tend to be from Archaic peoples. Anthropomorphs were predominantly done by the Fremont. The most famous part of the gap is a panel known as the Zipper Glyph. The Zipper Glyph may have had and archeoastronomical function (summer solstice) and may have operated as a map as well.
