I have curiously few pictures of this mosque, partly because I know it so well I tend to just pass it by. Also, I have some in slide format waiting for a more public appearance. The mosque and surrounding complex is thought to have been built by Sinan the Elder between 1463-1470. About the architect very little is known. The building we see today was built after the complex was destroyed on 22 May 1766 during an earthquake. On a different plan the reconstruction, under Sultan Mustafa II, was completed in 1771.
