Wanda and I spent a little time out on a nearby marsh. The American White Pelicans have returned for the Summer. It was bitter cold, windy and spitting rain off and on but we still had a great time watching the pelicans fish for spawning carp in the shallows. This carp looked to be much more than a mouthful. The carp did get away as the three pelicans fought over it.

I love pelican's and this image sums part of their character up... he/they couldnt resist this carp. Great catch in more ways than one.

This is going to sound funny...I'm not sure if this was with the tripod or the mono-pod. I started shooting with the mono-pod. The wind was blowing hard enough that it was buffeting the lens around; so, I switched to the tripod. Of the photos I took this one was somewhere in the middle near when I switched. At this kind of shutter speed plus the IS things are pretty sharp when using the mono-pod. I wasn't using mirror lockup. This is a fairly heavy crop. These bird were out on the marsh maybe 200 or more yards.

Did you use a tripod and mirror lockup for this shot, or just the 300mm and 2x TC?
