The Tenacious Dandelion 04_10_05.jpg

A sure sign of Spring are the dandelions beginning to pop here and there in the yard. This little guy is growing up between some paving bricks. On one level I hate these little flowers growing in the yard; so we'll get rid of them. Then again, I sure think they are pretty and sometimes wonder what all the fuss is about.

A Dandelion is just another flower, growing in the wrong place.
I will definatly appreciate the ones I have even more. :-))
And John Dorsey: Where I come from, they say "If you pick a dandelion, you wet the bed"

Nice image Bill, while I will agree that the flower is quite nice it is the plant attached that is the nuisance. They are very broad leafed and will easily kill a circle of grass 8 inches in diameter below them. Now if this flower was associated with a plant structure like a crocus I would love them even more. Now where is my Killex?

Lovely detail. Yes they are a pretty flower... this is turning into a Dandelion fan club lol

Actually had some dandelion wine when I was in my 20’s, … a friend had made several bottles of it and gave me one. Kick arse stuff and actually kind of tasty. One fun and strange thing about dandelion wine is every spring the bottled wine (even if unopened) becomes cloudy for a week or so and then clears up again. Hey! If a human wants to get drunk, he can make wine out of even a “weed”!

Dennis, the green star under the dandelion is just the bud of a dandelion that has bloomed yet.

And you have to love a plant whose name in French is pis-en-lit, which translates directly to wet-the-bed. John

I agree -- I'm just going to sit and enjoy them in my lawn. Nice image. I'm fascinated by the green "starburst" under the flower. What is it?

Good point... why don't we just cool it and enjoy them ...

They are a pretty little flower when you take the time to really examine them...
