Violet-backed Starling - female

Scientific name: Cinnyricinclus leucogaster
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Sturnidae

The Violet-backed Starling, also known as the Plum-coloured Starling or Amethyst Starling, is a relatively small species of starling in the Sturnidae family. This strongly sexually dimorphic species is found widely in woodland of mainland sub-Saharan Africa.

The Violet-backed Starling is found throughout the African continent and parts of the Middle East. They are found in forested and wooded areas where there is ample fruit to forage as well as fields and gardens, and have been known to thrive in dry bush areas where fig trees are present. In the wild they prefer figs but will also catch insects while flying.
