Born around 1040-1000, this national monument was used as the Moon-landing training ground for the Apollo astronauts.
Sitting at 8000 ft. at the eastern end of the San Francisco volcanic field, the monument encompasses 3040 acres, all of it federal land. There are hiking trails throughout the monument.
