Faraway Ranch sits in the Chiricachua National Monument in Bonita Canyon.
After Geronimo surrendered in 1886, Neil and Emma Erickson built a homestead here. Their daughter, Lillian, named the ranch the Faraway because it "was so god-awful far away from everything." She and her husband, Ed Riggs, used the homestead as a guest ranch to show visitors the wonders of the canyon, eventually selling it to the National Park Service in 1978.
