This monument marks the final resting place for the man who made the biggest silver strike in Arizona history and is called "the father of Tombstone."
He died in Oregon in 1897 and according to his wishes, his body was brought back to Arizona and buried here dressed in his old red flannel shirt and prospector's pants. Placed beside him were his pick, shovel, and battered canteen that he carried on the day he made his fabulous strike.
This spot is where he last camped before striking it rich.
