A modern industrial city near the end of the three-part Kurushima-Kaikyō Bridge linking Ehime and Hiroshima Prefectures, Imabari is the second-largest urban center in the prefecture behind Matsuyama. A castle town established by Tōdō Takatora, the city is now most notable for its restored castle complex, one of the few in the country with a moat once fed by ocean water.
