Order PASSERIFORMES

White-eyes
The white-eyes are active birds of the canopy that behave rather like sunbirds or flowerpeckers, except that they usually occur in small loose parties that call to each other incessantly, with cheeping notes rather like baby chickens. They are mainly olive in colour, some more green and others more yellow, and are so named because of the prominent white ring round the eye. (Derek Holmes & Stephen Nash, The Birds of Sumatra and Kalimantan, 1990)

Munias
Munias are small seed-eating birds that resemble finches in external appearance but differ in internal anatomy; they build covered nests, whereas finches build cup-shaped ones. The family can be grouped into the weaverbirds, not in Borneo, and the munias. (Smythies, The Birds of Borneo, 1990)

Buntings
Buntings are distinguished by the shape of the cutting edge of the mandible, horny palate, and usually short outermost primary. Their plumage patterns are typically striated brown, buff and black. All of these characteristics are subject to variation between species. Buntings are often ground feeders, other finches often more arboreal. (Smythies, The Birds of Borneo, 1990)
