Welcome to my collection of images for wild Birds of Borneo.

This represents a record of my humble efforts to photo-document the avifaunas of Borneo in general and of Sabah in particular. All images here are taken in Borneo and the locations are as stated under each image.

Both common and scientific names follow PHILLIPPS' FIELD GUIDE TO THE BIRDS OF BORNEO (2011, Beaufoy Books).

I have a question and I hope someone out there can help me. I live in KK (Waikiki Condo at Tanjung Aru beach) and since 14 days 4 very elegant looking birds have found my balcony to their liking and build a nest between some of my green-leaf plants. They are: small and very slim looking birds with a blue short beak, a black head and the rest is chestnut-brown - very shiny! I have tried to find the name for it to learn more about them, but until now I was not successful and I hope, someone can help. Pls. send an e-mail to Ly_chen@yahoo.com if you know their name. These wonderful images serve as great photographic documentation of these species! I would hope that other avian photographers do the same in other remote areas of the world. I travel myself and take thousands of images, however my equipment is not the caliber of yours. I hope you will continue to document the various species in other remote areas in the future. These will be of important scientific records one day, as well as a tremendous aid for those of us who wish to identify these not so often seen species! Thank you sooo much !!!!

This web is extremely helpful.. As someone who'd like to become a nature guide, it is great to actually able to see real photos of Bornean birds- not illustrations that can often be confusing.. Thanks for creating and sharing such great web. My admiration goes to the beautiful photos also the professionalism and respesct you have towards birds.. Hi. skhin, I can only say that the most important element in photographing birds in the wild is reach, especially so for tropical birds, which are often skittish. Which means long lens, with long lens you also need solid support to get sharp images. I am surrently using a, soon to be obsolete, Nikkor 600mm f4 AFS II on a Gitzo 1548 tripod with a whimberly head. TQ.
