Order PASSERIFORMES

Monarch Flycathchers
Monarchs are bold forest insectivores which glean insects from leaves and branches and hawk insects in flight. Previously regarded as flycatchers, DNA studies show they are related to Woodshrikes. Most birds bathe regularly to keep their feathers in good condition. The monarchs (including paradise flycatchers) are particularly known for plunging into rivers or pools to bathe on sunny days. (Quentin Phillipps, Phillipps' Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo, 2009)

Paradise Flycathchers
Like the other monarch flycatchers, paradise flycatchers are polymorphic. Males can occur rarely as short-tailed brown morphs and even rarer white females have been recorded. "The phases appear to be age related, white birds being older, males may be in breeding condition in brown short-tailed plumage, and females rarely attain long white-tailed plumage." (Mann).(Quentin Phillipps, Phillipps' Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo, 2009)
