Order TROGONIFORMES

Trogons
The trogons are some of the most colourful forest birds, but they tend to sit quitely in the middle storey of dense forest, so it is difficult to obtain good views. When disturbed, they will usually fly a short distance to a new perch, with just a tantalizing tip of the tail left to view. The wings are short and rounded, and the tail is moderately long and square-tipped. The females lack the very bright colors which serve to identify the males. (Derek Holmes & Stephen Nash, The Birds of Sumatra and Kalimantan, 1990)
