Fujifilm Finepix HS10 review - Page 29: Flash Test

The external flash unit used was Metz 28M-1. Since there is no metering connection between the external flash unit and HS10, you can only use M mode in HS10 to have a correct exposure.

All photos were taken by 24mm with Manual Focus set at infinity in order to have a clean image. It is pity to note that both the built-in and external flash unit would not be fired if you set HS10 in Super Macro Mode. No hood was used.

Bounch Flash was set by tilting the flash head pointing to the ceiling location, forming an angle of about 70 degree from the horizontal.

My conclusion is that (for 24mm shot only):

(1) For focus distance less than 12cm, don't use built-in flash because there would be dark areas at the bottom of the picture.

(2) For focus distance longer than 30cm, try to prevent to use built-in flash because there are some mild bandings near the bottom. However, it would not be a big problem in real life situations.

(3) Built-in flash is not wide enough to cover the entire 24mm frame and some degrees of dark corners are noted. No such problem exists when external flash unit is used.

(4) Depends on the circumstances, bounch flash may not give you a better result if the focus distance is about 1cm.
