And they're off!

After weeks' of political crisis, which saw the resignation of several senior cabinet Ministers
and the leader of the main party in power stepping down, the election has finally been
called for February 25th.
It's shaping up to be one of the most interesting elections in recent history, with voters
hungry for change.
Was just having a cup of coffee before heading for a long day covering the district
court in a freezing courtroom, when I spotted a hive of activity outside the shop
window.
The Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams, who has resigned his Westminster seat to stand in
Co Louth, was in the town centre for a photo shoot and was being followed by a tv
crew. While a lot of people have reservations because of his links with the Republican
movement, it does show how much politics have moved on in the past twenty years
that he is now standing for a seat in the Dail (Irish parliament).

Good to get a candid of a well known one - 99% of them are pretty unrecognisable!

It is good to see him taking on a broader agenda on in more recent times.

In green of course. Great timing. Our Irish news tends to be scanty but everything seems to be buried beneath Egypt lately.

No one likes a politician, but Mr Adams in this role has to be better than his past one, lets hope the elections bring some changes for the every day folk.

Ahh, the cut and thrust of the hustings :o) Have to agree with Philip - I'm surprised there's no baby for Adams to kiss!
Phillip Normanton02-Feb-2011 22:15
Ah politicians - all teeth, smiles and handshakes... and little else.

Nice editorial shot. Didn't the Secret Service confiscate your camera and whisk you away? :-) V

Well titled; almost everything in this image imparts a sense of movement. The crossed legs of the camerawoman in front suggesting that she's just moved to that position, the person pointing beyond her, Adams moving across presumably to shake someone's hand, the guy beyond him in mid-stride; the image isn't hugely dynamic in itself but it suggests pent-up energy in the first stages of being released.

Great reportage image, your news is going to be full of this for some time yet.
