Moyry Castle

Went on a bit of a mystery tour through South Armagh this afternoon.
Seeing a sign for a castle, I turned down a small country lane and
soon came to Moyry Castle. Built in 1601, it stands in a strategic
location overlooking The Gap of the North. Some families
were there with their children, rolling Easter Eggs down the hill.
We left and followed another sign for 'Kilnasaggart Standing Stone', an
old stone with inscriptions in Ogham or ancient Irish writing, but turned
back when confronted by a field of cows. Maybe next time.....

Certainly looks mysterious - but scared off by a field of coos - they're just big softies really :o))

What a wonderful place to explore, a place now inhabited only by ghosts. The sky was perfect for this intriguing shot.

Happy Easter! Sounds like you had a nice adventure!

The cows have probably seen the sheep photos and decided that they wanted THEIR 15 minutes as well.
This is a good arrangement; including the horses and having the castle behind the trees suggests a man-made place long since abandoned to return to the elements.

A serendipitous adventure can be fun and rewarding, as it did in this case. Lovely capture of the old castle and the surroundings. V

Mystery tours are fun...but how do you know when you have arrived?!?!? Looks like an interesting place Mairead :)

I'd be more scared of the horses than the cows, and Easter eggs can be a bit worrying .....
