The girls are back in town

Apologies to Thin Lizzy whose great song 'The Boys Are Back In Town' inspired the title for today's pic.
This field near our house has turned into an ante-natal ward for sheep as our neighbour has moved his
ewes into it in advance of the lambing season, which in these parts gets underway around St Patrick's
Day although I have seen a couple of new born lambs on other farms.
Getting a shot of the ewes was the easy option on a busy overcast day. I sometimes wonder if
I resemble a sheep farmer such is their enthusiasm when they see me approaching and I fear
it may be a case of mistaken identity as I'm sure they don't all want to get their pics on Pbase.

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments yesterday. We did shed a few tears for poor Patch but
were mindful that he was only a dog. There is a worrying increase in suicides among young
people in Ireland and this week two families not too far from here are mourning the deaths
of young women who should have had their lives ahead of them.

Ooh, that looks like a lot of weight for little legs. Lucky they have four!

I voted for this. Not "only a dog" but a beloved member of a family.

Nice to see the snow didn't last long. The new lambs will have a nice, green pasture to start their new lives.

Nice group portrait. Look forward to seeing the lambs! I didn't know about the increased suicide rate - presumably that's the economy.

Such a beautiful shot of these sweet sheep! V
Patch wasn't just a dog, he was a member of the family.

They look about to produce ...... you'll be posting lambs next. They probably don't feel much like doing anything else except standing there. Well done.

There lining up for you.

I think ewe've been spotted!!

Hey don't all "ewe" love to get on PBase? Charming image... maybe they wanted to talk with you?
Alan K17-Feb-2010 21:07
If you're a sheep there really isn't much else to do with your day so getting your fleece on PBase isn't necessarily a bad idea. It's interesting that they're all coming in to face you like that. I don't get much chance to shoot sheep, but I sometimes encounter cattle on trips to Canberra and they're more inclined to head in the other direction with a suspicious backward glance than to pose like this lot are. An enjoyable bucolic image!
