There's nothing quite like the excitement of starting a new book, especially one by a favourite
author. If there's one benefit from the winter, it's the excuse it gives us to sit in front of the
fire, curled up with a good book.
Colum McCann is one of my favourite authors. I was blown away by his poetic style of writing
since reading his first book 'Fishing The Sloe-Black River'. I also loved 'Songdogs'. 'This Side of Brightness'
and 'Everything In This Country Must' - lyrical accounts of the human condition. I was admittedly disappointed by
his last two books 'Dancer' and 'Zoli' but his latest, 'Let The Great World Spin', has received excellent reviews and
won the 2009 National Book Award in the United States.
So when I've finished my chores this evening I am going to sit down and start reading 'one of the greatest-ever
novels about New York.'
