08-JAN-2010

I am feeling guilty. I wished for snow and I got snow. And now the country is
slowly sliding to a standstill. Here, in our wee corner of the country we escaped
the worst of the snow - so far. We've just had a couple of showers earlier in the
week and gradually the midday sun has melted the snow. Temperatures, however,
continue to plummet below freezing during the night resulting in icy roads and footpaths,
and frozen pipes. Now blizzards are forecast over the weekend.
The Government has ordered all schools in the country to close
until next Thursday and local authorities are running out of salt to grit the roads.

We've had unusually harsh winter weather here, too, even in our southern states which usually have pretty mild winters. This is such a pretty scene, with those mountains in the distance. ~V~

You might as well join a lot of us in the cold weather that is present right now. Think of the photo ops in ice and snow and people bundled up :-)

So lovely to look at but so treacherous to move around in! The worst part of winter is driving on slippery roads. But such beautiful images it provides.

Ah but think of the photo opportunities. Every cloud...

Beautiful winter images! We had our frozen pipes, etc. the first part of December, and it is slowly warming up here. V

I doubt your wishes included south Texas, land of palm trees and sweltering heat. We have been below 0 for 2 days and have at least 3 more coming. Minus 8C at night is very rare, yet that is where my thermometer is going as I write. Stay warm! These are beautiful photographs! Looks idylic... but cold.

I´m sure it´s not Your fault, the snowing ;o) Here we have -14 C and 60 cm´s of snow at the moment. My relatives in Finland had -34 C this morning, but it´s warming up, only -28 C now... Their cows are freezing, they had to start up some heating fans in the barn... And the tractor won´t start and the bales of fresh food for the animals are frozen solid.

Two most beautiful images, showing the pretty side of winter. The other side is as you described. It is one thing if the country is prepared as we are in Ottawa (with all our snow!!), but in many places such as Great Britain and Ireland, the freezing cold and snow are not as common. Stay warm. V

Think nothing of it, this is how it should be at this time of year, we're growing soft with the mild winters we've had ;-) Great pics btw!

Lol, theres a saying there,"be careful what you wish for", I wish ours would stop also.

The light dusting of snow is a good contrast to the lovely blue sky. Don't feel too bad about wishing for it!! :)

It's global warming at work Mairead!
I hope that Ireland survives the cold spell without too much problem. Stay warm my friend!
