Spring Clean Up

West Virginia

This plum tree was partially uprooted by the last snow storm. So hi ho, it had to go. More snow tonight and tomorrow. When this was taken it was 30 degrees.

It is a wonderful capture of a moment in time. But what odd weather we are all having, snow one day, warmth the next. V

Fabulous action shot Karen...To enjoy life to the full we have to try adapt to the temps...It was a shock to my system the first winters I spent in Sweden...BV

at 30 I just stay inside half dead! We usually cut wood in winter here. great action shot. V

Great image of the cleaning up scene, love the motion in the saw. v

Excellent capture of this scene, Karen. I always hate to see a tree go no matter what. \/

he's a brave man....I would be layered in clothes!!
Tom LeRoy05-Mar-2012 09:42
A real action shot, like the blur as he zaps the tree with the chainsaw. Maybe the last of winter. V.
Alain Boussac05-Mar-2012 08:44
Superb action shot. You captured the movement so well. I like the warm tones in harmony, too. V.

Like the sense of motion and all of the warm tones,
even though as you say, it was cold out. Good work!

It looks like it has been an old tree, with all the moss-covered and weathered bark, sad it had to go, hopefully for a new one to be planted!? Great rural feel and work in the woods, this man is as original as the tree was:)!! Vote for the action shot!
Bryan Murahashi05-Mar-2012 04:35
Very nicely captured, Karen. He must keep warm with all the hard work being done. V

If it's not windy, 30º can be nice--especially if the sun is out and you are working. It pays to get a head start on spring clean-up. Nice action shot.

Lovely candid capture,Karen. Sure looks like your spring has started early! Our temp today was -12 celcius.

Walter has said what I was about to say. I remember not wearing a coat while working outside, but now I have been in Texas for 30 years. I get cold when the temps fall below 70F. Nice view of a hard-working man taking care of business. V

I like the motion in this picture. Sorry about the tree.
Frank Brault05-Mar-2012 00:15
A terrific candid action portrait that tells a story. Love the sense of movement of the saw. Superbly composed. BV

Oh I hope you took a macro of that wonderful lichen before it went! LOL. (That's what I would have done.)
Such a shame about the tree, less bloossom in spring. But a nice action shot and character study for your lens.

Wow, nice action shot,Karen!I can't believe you are getting snow! That must be where all of ours has gone...
Mairéad04-Mar-2012 22:33
Great action shot and I love how the forest seems to go on forever. Perhaps he's wearing a thermal vest? V
John King04-Mar-2012 22:13
Great action capture but sorry to hear that your plum tree had to be cut down. V.
Walter Otto Koenig04-Mar-2012 22:04
Nice action shot. You captured the movement well. I've lived in SoCal so long I can't take the cold anymore. If it goes below 60F, I'm freezing. "V"

Oh these machines do worry me. You've caught the action well - I guess that keeping moving is keeping him warm!

Interesting capture! V.

I like the motion blur of the arm and the saw, with everything else including the foreground branch frozen. I'm a cold weather critter myself but I have to admit that at just below 0 (on our scale) I'd probably have a jacket on. On the other hand, I'm sure that swinging a chain saw will warm you up quickly...

Excellent work. V.
