This was a market day on May 27, 2006. It is held every 5 days. This was a walk through of about 40 minutes as we were leaving for a much more remote area. The area is southwest of Jishou City, Hunan Province, China, by approximately 60 kilometers.

You will notice that there are many elders in these images. I did not go out of my way to photograph just the aged but as with many rural communities in China, the middle population is going to the cities in search of work and a life not composed of toil in the field that has little security and even less monetary reward.
