I found a black bug with a round body, not segmented, the black body was the size of a quarter, the strange thing was it had a8-10 straight legs maybe 1 inch and a half in length. I tried to kill it but it got away. The whole body maybe was the size of a plum.

This oversized flying insect looked like a cross between a dragonfly/preying mantis/moth,approx. 4-41/2 in. longX1in. wide w/long 2 feeler(pincher/antennae) from its head--body w/ a wingspan of 5to6or6 1/2 in. wide....the body resembled that of a dragonfly or a butterfly. Also at the end of the body were 2 or 3to4 small pinchers!!!!!!!!!!! One of the largest flying bugs that we've ever seen!!!! Does anyone have any idea of what it could be...my husband grew up in the country w/farms all around and has never seen anything quite like this. Also, the color of this bug was dark brownish-black. We live in Western Pennsylvania, near the Youngstown,OH. border w/a the polluted Shenango River approx. 1 mile from us and across the river is the old Westinghouse mill and train yards. Please respond if anyone has any info!!!

My kitchen is overrun with tiny (1/8") flying bugs that are in the refrigerator and freezer, They seem to be dead inside the fridge but awaken if removed and fly about the room. Examining one reveals a green color to the body, similar to a June bug. Another one had a reddish color to its head. Could you identify this insect?

Hi I was outside playing guitar yesterday when a creature slowly started walking up to me. It was black with long legs, had 6 of them, and a red face/eye and what look like a tube in its mouth. Hi There, I opened the fridge and pulled out the vegetable drawer at the bottom to empty out the onion bits (like the dry layers that fall off) out of the bottom and out fell this black/dark brown insect/Spider. It had 8 long skinny legs, a fat, round body (almost looked too heavy for its spindly legs to carry) and the legs appeared to come out of the top of it?! Sorry for you bug lovers but i did flush it down the sink in a moment of panic. however I did get a couple of photos first though if they would help! Any idea what this was?

I need some help here, please. Tonight my daughter calls to me from her bath and tells me she sees a huge spider just hanging out over the door and asks me to come and get it. I get up expecting maybe a wolf spider or something to that extent but when I get to the bathroom I lay my eyes on this type of insect I have never seen before. This thing is the strangest insect I have ever seen, it has six legs, 2 of which seem to be positioned in the back with the other 4 coming out of the front of its body. The legs measure about 3 and 1/2 inches from the end of the back leg to the tip of the front leg ( sorry I cant be more accurate but I have him In a jar) and they are black in color with a slight brown shade where there seems to be a joint and returns to black leading up to the body. The main body of this little fellow is close to a inch and a half from what seems almost to resemble a tiny stinger to its head. The belly of the body is a yellowish brown with 4 white lines crossing it horizontally. The top of the body is hard to really get a good look at because of the wings. One set of wings that are really awesomely colored, at first glance they almost seem translucent but after getting a better look they have shades of black and brown running thru them. It really is a sight to see. Now normally I would have just set the little guy free but for one I have never seen this type of insect before, I also noticed what again looks like a tiny stinger protruding from the back end and now I need to make sure my little girl would be safe playing outside with him flying around. I hope I gave a decent description of the insect, I would love some more information on this little guy so please if anyone knows what it is any help is very much appreciated..

I saw a sort of termite or parasite out in the Wasco, Oregon Lepage Park Campgrounds, in the restroom . It was as big as the palm of the average females hand, and had the butt of a bee, no wings, the legs of a cricket i suppose u could say, and it was fast and had at least 6 legs if not 4. It had antennas too and it was a yellow, orangy, brown and black and yellowish. Any info on this mysterious insect please email me thanks!

brought in a fresh cut tree from ny. two weeks later there were hundreds of bugs living in the tree skirt. they were round black with 4 small legs and two long legs out the back. they may be ticks but they did not move or jump

I love the rest of the world's bugs too. The Scutigera (long-legged centipede) is always a delight, but the best is the pink leaf beetle with massive hind legs (a male). Great fun. I have seen this bug if that's what you would call it twice. It is small like a tactic. Remings me of a bear with 6 legs, but does not walk with back and but up walks laying flat. It is cute which I never say about bugs but it is. I recently found an insect I can't identify. It's markings and coloring suggest wolf spider. It had a black head, 1/2" long body, about 1/8" wide. Four legs pointing front, on each side, and four legs pointing back on each side. About a 2" long tail that was like a feeler, that type of appendage anyway. Looked like it had 8 egg sacks on under-belly. Four on each side. Should I be worried?

I found an eight legged, looks to be spider, with a hard crust at the rear of the insect. The two rear legs are longer to allow for the insect to move the tree bark like object near the rear. The large crust object has what look to be little pointer sticking out.

I am trying to identified and insect that I have seen twice outside my apartment. I live in Georgia. I didn't think to take a picture. This insect had the head and upper body of a red wasp and the tail of a black and yellow bumble bee, it fly's. At first I thought is was a wasp and bee fighting, but as I took a closer look, I realized this was one insect. Trying to identify a bug on my outside door screen. It is not alive but has 6 legs, (2 are claws), is about the size of a bumble bee. It has two very small antennae on its head. I found a bug-like creature that I have never seen before and want to know what it is. I live in Northern California and found it in my bathroom in May 2009. Its size is about 1 cm (less than half an inch.) It has 3 pairs of spiney legs and two body parts. The abdomen is cone-like, metallic light green-grey in color and is smaller than the head. The head is boxy-like, orange in color and is larger than the abdomen. At the top, front end of the "head" part are two small black dots for eyes that look fused to the "head" part. It has two, black hanging mandibles that look like lobster claws. It can weave a web and is resting on it. No atennae nor wings. Can someone tell me what it is?

wow very insteresting. I have an insect that i have found also that is similar to that description that J. DuFault gave for the bug he or she found. mine is different though because it only has 6 legs and the antannae is not furry. But it looks definitely like they described other than that. it can move in both directions, but i have noticed that it prefers the front side - or ant side of it. it only uses the worm end if it is stuck. i also noticed that after i gave it some water it drank it in an odd fashion that is hard to describe. i am thinking about putting a youtube video of it up. I dont know yet though. does anyone have any ideas to what this insect may be??

I just found an insect (or something) in my house that sounds exactly like the thing that a guest posted on June 1, 2008: has 2 antennaes, 3 legs on each side, an armadillo like body, a stinger like thing coming out from behind it, and 2 other antennasess on coming out of the stinger. It is about 1/2 to 1 inch long. Not sure if the stinger like thing that comes out of the back is a stinger or not. It appears to have 3 parts to the stinger like thing that all come together. If you just glance at it it looks like a thick stinger, but if you look real close it seems to be three thinner pieces that just come together. Possibly a stinger or possibly somthing that helps to propel it? I really don't know. Also, the legs were very long and resembled grasshopper legs to me. I looked at pics of the wind scorpion and it wasn't even close. Any other suggestions?

In an answer to the below question, they are found all over the world. Many times in the fall insects change their summer habits to prepare for winter, which often brings them together.

I live in NW NJ. I woke up this morning and found what appears to be Hemitera bugs on my screen. They seem to be swarming around today because I also found some on the back screen as well and one flew on me when I went to get the paper. You have it noted that they are from China? Does the US have a similar bug? Why all of a sudden do I see so many? Thanks

hey everybody! i found a very interesting bug... although other people seem to think that it is an 8 legged scorpion with no stinger, but a long thin kinda fuzzy tail that is about 3 inches long, and about 6 1/2 inches long. it also has pinchers, which if you counted that, it would be a 10 legged insect. can anybody help me out?

I hav a bug in a jar at the moment that i found in my loaf of bread this morning. I do not know what it is, but i really need to find out. It has 6 legs, pinchers on its bottom, and feelers on its head. It's body has 3 parts. the head part is red, the middle part is a grey/browny colour, and the back part is a dark brown/ black colour. if you know what this could be it would be fantastic to find out!

Trying to identify this bug that has a red butt that looks somewhat like a wild strawberry. The rest of the body is black. 6 legs, 2 antennas black with shade of brown at the tips. Looks in between an ant, spider and a praying mantis!!!

John- I have currently in a jar; 2 bugs about 3/8" - 1/2" long by 1/8"- 1/4" wide; black with a red band (1/2 the width and 1/2 the length of the body) with 6 legs (towards the front third of the body) and a narrow inch worm type remaining body. It looks like it uses the end of the body to stabilize itself as it moves and may have some type of suction on the end. There are no antenae or pinchers etc... I am located in the mid west and these bugs were in a bathroom. I tried to photograph them but the images were too blurry to see them. I do know that they like to eat grapes as that is what is currently in the jar with them. :) Any help would be great! Thank you.

i just found a small beetle crawling on my arm it was about 1/4 of an inch white belly 2 antennas 3 legs on either side the top was much darker toward the end if it there was sort of a trianglar shape design do you have any idea what kind it might be. I am asking because we just have family get back from China and i was wondering if it came from there or one from here

Hi, I've just discovered a strange 8-legged insect. The body looks 'tic' like - about 5mm flat and square. 2 feelers about 2cm long, and the 8 legs are up to 10cm long!! It's very flat & the legs aren't splayed but beside each other. From above the legs would all fit into 2cm by 10 cm. I've taken some photos but I've never seen this before!

there are loads of these bugs in my home, I keep finding them everywhere on the walls and on furniture. I haven't got a clue what they are and have never seen them before. Can someone help me as I am afraid they are some kind of infestation. They are really small bugs with six legs, the middle set slightly shorter that the other four, they also a proboscis and antenna like. thanks if you can help.

donette I found the same type of creature today in my garden, buried underground. it was white with a dark gray, uh... butt, and it had 6 legs grouped together at its head. it was about an inch long with an alomost ant like head. is this what you found? if so, i will look for info. about it and post it on here. so you can recognize its me, i'm wild fury

I am trying to identify an 8-legged creature we found in our house...this one is a little over an inch long, I have seen a larger version before that was about 2 inches long. The first impression was that it was some kind of giant ant, due to the shape of its head and mandibles; but it definitely has 8 legs, and large almost "furry" antenna from its head which are even larger than the legs. The overall color of both "bugs" is a light to medium brown or tan color. The shorter one which my son just found had a head like an ant, but a strange jointed body, like the shape of something you would see on an "insect", but with a shell in ridges, kind of like an armadillo; sort of tear-drop shaped, with the narrow end attached to the head. The one we found previously (larger, and at a different house, so it may or may not be the same species), I don't remember the body being segemented like that, but more like a giant brown ant -- but again, it definitely had 8 legs. Any ideas??

I'm trying to identify a caterpillar looking worm that is about 6" long, and probably 3/4" diameter. The color is bright aqua or turquoise, and it has sharp looking spines like horns, and also on the tail section. One was crawling in my yard, and my Yorkies wanted to investigate; I was glad they were on leashes that day, to prevent them getting too close. I was afraid thos spines would sting, and maybe even be poisonous--but I cannot locate any pictures or information to find out what it was.
