A IS FOR APPLICATION

Fort Worth, TX

I am having to renew my passport since I let it expire...this has been difficult, to say the least. Anyway, I had to find my old passport first and didn't have the foggiest of where it was. I usually keep important papers in my safe but pulled it out a year or so ago to renew it and then forgot to put it back. And, I never renewed it...duh!!!!!

Anywho...see I was born outside the US in Berlin, Germany and having to try to find my old birth certificate which isn't enough...you have to have some F12398540902986940986094&*(*&#^*%*(&@( form as well....but you get my drift...it has to come in from the government if I couldn't find my old passport. That takes time and I need this thing now!!! I will be heading out of the country in January and must have everything in order. So, I call my Mom who is the sweetest thing, and ask her if she knows where my birth certificate is. I found my marriage license/divorce decree, etc., etc., in my safe but no passport or birth certificate. She calls me back and says she doesn't have it. Hmmmmmmm.......and I have no clue...
I remember when I first got my passport what a pain in the a$$ it was to get everything done!

After literally tearing the house apart, I finally prayed and said, Please, Jesus, help me find it! I went out into the garage to some boxes and the first one I came to I opened it up and the passport was on top! Thank the Lord!!!!! Then, Mom calls and said she found the birth certificate along with the government thingy that says I'm a U.S. citizen born outside the country. So, all is well.

I filled out my new application, have old passport in hand and now all I need is my SS card and my drivers license......oh my...where are they???? LOL! I know exactly where they are and I guarantee that I will know where my passport is next time! Whew! What a morning! I think I'm going to go out and shoot some stuff.

I was going to say "A" for aggravation, but looks like it all worked out.

Fun story! Thanks for sharing.

yep! Me too I have that problem. I left my old one expired, since I have terminated travelling abroud, except for the US. Now The U.S. says I got to have one to go in, and part of my family lives in the US since almost 300 years. I always felt that like the EU North america should be tearing down borders. But the US is adding more and more barriers of all kind, all because there is a villager in Texas that believes differently.

Great idea and A entry. Guess you could say A is for A-holes in the immigration department...I have no idea where my SS card is...my parents are deceased...got a DL...and no passport...LOL Very nice shot and post production.

As long as you don't shoot anyone in the passport dept :-)
Great entry.

Well Cindi, if it's any consolation, you'll at least be able to take your own passport photos. :-)

Excellent choice, Cindi, and a very entertaining story. I understand your pain!

An application you won't forget in a hurry! Great starter image, and your narrative gave a fine sense of the hassle you had to endure.
Johnny JAG01-Dec-2008 20:28
I'd have given up and stayed home. Well applied.

I don't know if you can do it where you are, but our local post office does renewals by appointments, so there is no waiting time. The passport is mailed to you within 14 days. Nice "A" to start things out.

So much work to travel ;-)
Gary Winters01-Dec-2008 19:14
Wow, what an ordeal! But great idea to start the challenge.

What a palaver!! Glad you have found most of what you need... and I really hope you might be heading the UK way at some point..?! ;o)

I'm pretty good on knowing where my passport is but nearly came a cropper six years ago when travelling to the U.S. My brother told me that I needed six (?) months left on my passport to be allowed in! I had to ring up the U.S. embassy to confirm this rule had been withdrawn for us Brits - just as well as this was the same day I was flying out.

Have a good time in that mystery destination...
Lee Rudd01-Dec-2008 19:03
I would still be turfing stuff out of boxes looking for it.... actually, where is mine...?!
Jeff Lobaugh01-Dec-2008 18:43
I feel your pain. As we get older it seems that more of us are afflicted by CRS. Can't remember sh##. I know I always store important things in a place where I'll always remember where they are, but never do seem to remember.
Coleen Perilloux Landry01-Dec-2008 18:38
You'd better hike yourself to that office. Waiting time these days is a while. Since 9/11 it is an ordeal.
Nice A by the way.

Losing important papers happens to me all of the time. They are never, ever, where you think that you put them. And finding them happens the same way that you did.

hope that your renewed passport will happen quickly. If I remember, it takes time and more time. Or there is an express method also, it costs but is worth it.

have a wonderful trip.
pkocinski01-Dec-2008 18:30
Duh talk about bad typing - that should be trouble not "ytouble :-(
Mairéad01-Dec-2008 18:30
Well, at least you got the inspiration for a great shot!
Hope you have a good trip.
pkocinski01-Dec-2008 18:29
Oh this is great but you heading out of the country - what "ytouble" can you possibly be getting into now?
