More Backyard Activity. These four images show Pileated Woodpeckers visiting my backyard. Several times in the past few weeks, a male Pileated has been feeding his young (also a male) from my suet feeder.

Top Image. The adult Pileated is perched high on a hydro pole which is located some 6 meters from my kitchen windows. It is looking down at my feeders, perhaps wondering how to get on them. Note, the sliver of wood just above his beak is part of the hydro pole that he is in the process of demolishing - actually looking for seeds hidden in cracks by other small birds.


The adult W.P. is making his way down to the level of the feeders.


He made it to the small suet feeder and is stuffing his beak with suet.


After he got all the suet he could handle, he flew back to the hydro pole where junior was anxiously waiting to be fed. He then deposited the suet into junior's beak, a small amount at a time. This was repeated several times.

Note: I was able to get quite close to the action as they paid scant attention to me.
