The Monarch Butterflies always migrate through our area in the fall on their way to winter in Mexico. On October 24, after the passage of a strong cold front accompanied by winds up to 40 mph, we had a large fallout as thousands of butterflies gathered in our trees to spend the night. These images were made both in the late afternoon as they gathered, and around sunrise the next morning before they warmed up and flew away! We have never seen such a large gathering before!
