We just returned from a short camping trip to Brazos Bend State Park, located about 75 miles southwest of our home. Mostly we were seeking a peaceful fall camping experience, but also wanted to photograph the birds and other wildlife that are present this time of year. While the wildlife and fall colors are not as compelling as in places such as Yellowstone and Grand Teton, we thoroughly enjoyed the perfect fall weather and were able to make some pleasing images without traveling thousands of miles to do so! A special wildlife treat was seeing and photgraphing Least Grebes, which are not common in this area. We also saw a lot of deer, but they were very elusive and almost impossible to photograph.
