Trigrad Gorge
The impressive Trigrad Gorge (pronounced Trigradsko Jdrelo) is situated about 1 km of the Trigrad village, in the south Rhodope Mountains. This place is very close to the Greece border and therefore access wasn't permitted for tourists during the communist regime. The vertical rocks forming the very narrow gorge reach up to 250 m of height. There, you really feel small and squashed by mother nature.
The Devil's Throat cave is one of the landmark sights of the Trigrad Gorge. Here the river enters a cave and forms 42 m high waterfall inside the cave. Around 500 meters down the gorge, the river/water surface again in the form of spring. The cave, which is open to the public is huge (mostly in vertical plane), very wet, due to the running river and waterfalls inside, with more up and down walking (less horizontal). Photos inside the cave are difficult to take - high amount of water droplets in the air are fooling the automatic focus metering (manual focus should be OK).
