Arbanassi Village, Bulgaria.
Arbanasi is one of the most picturesque old settlements in the country. It's situated on a rocky
plateau bearing the same name and pointing spectacular view to the medieval part of the Old
Bulgarian capital Veliko Tarnovo. The place is famous for its characteristic building architecture
and its churches rich in murals. The settlement was established in 13th century by Bulgarian boyars.
In 16 and 17 centuries the basic features of the houses in Arbanassi began to make themselves manifest.
The were rather fortress proper. They strake one as harsh in appearance with their tall outer stone walls, which are in stark contrast with the neat well-kept yards and the inimitable cosiness and
comfort of the inner spaces. The ceilings, doors, furniture and windows are sumptuously decorated
in woodcarvings. The walls are adorned with plaster ornaments, flowers and plant elements.
