Vietnam

... on the way to or coming from ... who knows? But funerals in Vietnam were joyous occasions where the departed was remembered and rejoiced in his passing on to better things ...

This image is just fascinating to me. Not only is it a well executed photograph, but all the elements within it are just fascinating. This image is really a reminder of how fleeting life really is.

Thanks for reminder how elaborate these "funeral wagons" were.
Yes,tim's right.

It seems very exotic to my western perspective. The funeral wagon reminds me of a barge, it's so long. The juxtaposition of the hearse and the thrumming rhythm of the city, with its various vehicles, phone lines and people, conveys how vibrant a place it was in 1966.

Hi Tom,
It's not always a joyous occasion. On the one hand, the Vietnamese Catholics believe the dead is going to heaven. On the other hand, there may be "hired mourners" to cry out so loud to prove that the deceased is seriously loved and missed.

Most of the memories of Nam's cities include that ornate decorated style as on that wagon. Nice catch.
