Hi I found one of these Giants yesterday in New York City. It was also a female. I also took photos.

This is a perfectly healthy wasp. It's a female and she's laying eggs inside the wood with very long ovipositor (that's not a stinger, it's a tube that she uses to penetrate wood with when she detects a beetle larva in there, and lay her eggs through it on the grub).
