Venice

Day 2 of our long weekend to Venice to see the Carnival. All the colourfully costumed revellers are out in the sun in St Marks Square. It seems to be THE place to be seen in your costume. This lady was kind enough to pose for me

Whenever you get to photograph people who are costumed, masked, painted, etc., they become something other than what they are. This image is a good example -- there is a human being here, but she comes at us from another time and place. You abstract her well in the frame, and use the incongruous golden mask with its human eyes as your focal point. The blue color is a primary color, and primary colors (red, blue, yellow) demand attention and stir emotional responses.
