Assassin Bug and Milichiid Fly

Yasuní National Park, Prov. Orellana, Ecuador

This assassin bug, Apiomerus sp. (Reduviidae: Harpactorinae) has impaled a stingless bee (Trigona sp.) beneath the the head. Note the tiny milichiid fly which is seeking an opportunity to imbibe body fluids oozing from the prey.

This is not Notocyrtus. This is a (probably) undescribed species of the large genus Apiomerus (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Harpactorinae: Apiomerini).
