Allen and Thurber Dragoon 08_08_05.jpg

This handgun is a 36 cal. Allen & Thurber Dragoon manufactured in Grafton, Mass in the 1830's. The letters and paperwork are from the War of the Rebellion/Northern Aggression. The table is an old family piece and was made before the Revolutionary War.

I used a couple of old oil lamps to light the picture and added just enough fill flash to get the exposure to 30 seconds. I really kind of hated adding the flash.

How did the fill flash work? To get the exposure down to 30 seconds? I don't understand. Sorry!

Just what I was thinking Ken, lovely copperplate script that adds immensely to the timeless quality of this image, along with the patination of the table.

I like the lighting effect that you created. It would be neat to see with the "Painting with light" technique. As always, nice work Bill!!

People really took pride in their penmanship in those days, not like the chicken scratch we use today.

Well done.

A first class image. You have captured a lovely antique glow.

Hey Bill, I really like this shot. I'm not a gun person, but I appreciate history, and the letter's really add alot to this shot. My mom has a big stack of document's like this and I just love going thru them and reading them. Regards Jim
