This is so cute! I love how his little mouth is open...like he is yelling at you

Bill this is stunning! Very very nice. Looks like you're putting the 300 2.8 to good use. =)

Tough bird to expose well with that black and white head - you've done it beautifully. John

Nice shot. That's some piece of glass too!

This is superb! Wonderful detail and such a great blurred background too.

Bill, I saw the closeup of the sparrow on DPReview and was going to comment there but to keep this thread/thought together... I would have to agree that with the quality you are getting with the 300 and 2xTC who needs the 500 or 600 (that's for Wanda). We all know you would put the bigger glass to good use too.

This is a beautiful capture of a chickadee. I love it. You even got a nice catch light in his eye's.

Steve, I might want the Wimberley head for a new tripod...the 300f/2.8 is a little much for what I have now. When the 300f/2.8L IS looks like this with a 2xII extender who needs a 500f/4? Don't answer that my budget can't handle it.

Check out these 100% crops straight out of the camera with no post processing from today 600mm @ f/5.6 600mm @ f/8

STEVE!!! Don't EVEN suggest it! I already had to get out the tin can and stand on the street corner begging for donations for the new lens he just got!

Bill, GREAT shot! I love this picture. It's much more appealing than yesterdays!

Nice shot Bill. And this from someone who claims he is not very interested in photographing birds . If you keep this up you will be wanting that 500mm and a Wimberly soon.

You really have a talent for photographing chicks

I like it, too. One of my very favorite birds, now I can see it sing up close. Outstanding.

Quite striking and very well done. And as much as I liked the excellent Wanda series I'm pleased to see you shift to more general photography and I can observe your talent in new ways.
